Cinco de Mayo isn’t just about the margaritas and guacamole. (Though who are we kidding, we’ll take any excuse to sip on a tangy marg and eat avocados.) You can’t forget the décor! Learn how to make your own edible saguaro cacti after the cut, and don’t forget to get the kiddos involved. Even better: They can mold these while you enjoy your Cinco Happy Hour.
What to Do:
Heat your chocolate chips and corn syrup in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring often.
Once your mixture is moldable, add food coloring. To get the bright green, you’ll need at least 35-50 drops. Mix completely.
Place a sheet of wax paper on a cookie sheet and spray with cooking spray. This will prevent your cactus from sticking. Start molding the green chocolate onto your pretzels. Roll small pieces of the chocolate-corn syrup mixture into cactus arms and add them to the pretzels.
If you’re feeling extra fancy, add a drop or two of food coloring to granulated sugar and mix well. Sprinkle this sugar on top of the pretzels to create the effect of spines.
Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes and serve! We suggest using these as decorative pieces, but they are totally edible, too.
