We all know milk tastes better frozen (see: ice cream), but there are plenty of other items that benefit from the frost of a freezer. Prepare these tasty snacks the night before, and the kids can grab them from the freezer after school.
- DIY Banana Pop: Dip bananas into melted chocolate and lather them with your favorite treats (we like walnuts, but M&Ms, sprinkles, coconut flakes, white chocolate chips, or granola are all amazing too). Freeze and enjoy!
- Gimme a Grape: We love frozen fruit, and grapes may just be our favorite. Their new texture makes them even more refreshing. For a fun dessert, dip the grapes in sugar before you freeze them for a little extra sweetness.
- Green is Groovy: Green smoothies are delicious, nutritious, and versatile too (banana base for breakfast, add almond milk at snack time, or load it up with an avocado for lunch). One trick to jazz up your smoothie is to use spinach ice cubes (load your ice tray with spinach and water) instead of plain ones. It’ll pack a flavor punch.
- DIY Ice Cream: Greek yogurt as ice cream base? Yes, please! A tart twist on your favorite dessert.
- Gone Bananas: Banana, meet freezer, freezer meet banana. We think you’ll be very happy together. Looking for a healthy ice cream alternative? Freeze and blend some bananas and voila!
- Cookies and Cream: Have an empty ice tray at home? Crumble your favorite cookie (we like Oreos) and then pour milk on top. Let it freeze, and once solid enjoy in milkshakes, coffee, or as a popsicle.
- Frozen Banana Supreme: Freeze some bananas, and once frozen, cut them up and dip them in peanut butter and honey. Try sandwiching them between two graham crackers.
- DIY Bagel Bites: If you’re going to do pizza bagels, do ‘em right. Make your own with your tomato sauce (or a FreshDirect sauce shortcut) and fresh mozzarella. Or get creative and try a pesto bite with ricotta. Leave them in the freezer overnight and they’ll be ready to heat and eat when you are.
- You Put The Gummy in the Coconut And Freeze It All Up: Fill popsicle containers with coconut water and gummy bears. Freeze and you’ll have a light, sweet treat on your hands.
- Choco-Lots of Love: Our co-worker Liz has been making her own chocolate and swears by this recipe: “Mix 1/4 cup melted coconut oil, 1/4 cup sifted cocoa or cacao powder, 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup, dash of vanilla extract, and pinch of sea salt. Pour into candy mould/lined pan and freeze!” Liz recommends putting it in lined mini muffin tins with a drop of almond butter in it for homemade Reese’s knockoffs.
