We spoke with Rockette Erin Kernion to learn about her gym bag must-haves.
Being a Rockette isn’t easy, especially on the heels of their second New York Spectacular show. “FreshDirect is a life saver for me with my busy Rockette schedule. I can order all of my favorite healthy snacks including Larabars, gator egg avocados, and rainbow baby carrots. It’s important to have healthy snacks on hand because of how athletic New York Spectacular is—we have to keep our energy up!”
What are your favorite health/beauty that help you power through dance-filled days?
The dancing that we do in New York Spectacular is very technical and physically demanding. Its 85 minutes of non-stop action, so I keep Dove Deodorant in my bag at all times. The Rockettes always wear red lipstick as part of our iconic beauty look—and nothing looks better with red lips than a white smile—so I make sure I always have Crest 3D Whitestrips in Glamorous White on hand. I also like to have a stash of Halls Defense Cough Drops for an extra dose of Vitamin C.
What are two to three must-haves that are always in your bag?
Whether I’m listening to show music for New York Spectacular or simply trying to find some peace on my subway rides, headphones are a must. In addition to being a Radio City Rockette and dancing in up to 10 shows per week at Radio City, I’m also a FlyBarre instructor at Flywheel Sports, so you will always find grippy barre socks in my bag. And, for beautiful, sunny, NYC days, I have my awesome Ray-Ban folding Wayfarers (a gift from my parents).
What’s an unexpected thing you often travel with?
Call me a dance dork, but I never leave home without a pair of ballet shoes in my bag. I love to sneak into ballet class whenever and wherever I can.
Gum or mints?
Mints!
Water: still or sparkling?
Sparkling water is the most refreshing treat after dancing. Currently: smartwater Sparkling water.
What style of bag are you often carrying?
I carry my Lululemon Athletica Backpack about 99% of the time. It holds everything I need for rehearsal, shows, teaching barre, and meeting friends.
