They’re the perfect edible gift.
What You’ll Need:
1 large orange
1 grapefruit
1 lemon
1 limes
1 blood orange
3 cups sugar, divided
6 cups water, divided
2 tablespoons orange juice
What to Do:
While the recipe calls for a variety of citrus fruits, you can use just one fruit of your liking. Prepare your citrus by slicing them through the stem, remove the flesh and pith from the peel, and cut your peels into thin slices.
Bring water to a boil and add the citrus peels. Cook for 5 minutes and drain. Repeat this process two more times.
Add peels, 2 cups water, and 2 cups sugar to a pan or pot, and bring to a boil. Cook for 30–40 minutes or until peels are translucent.
Cover a baking sheet with a cookie rack. Drain peels and let them cool on the rack for 15–20 minutes. As they cool, combine 1 cup sugar and fresh orange juice.
Cover peels in the orange sugar juice and let cool/harden for another hour. Cover again with granulated sugar and serve!
