As the games approach, it’s time to celebrate your favorite team—with a cocktail!
1. Germany: Watermelon Shandy
The Weihenstephan Brewery is the world’s oldest brewery with its history traced back to 768 in Bavaria, Germany. Therefore, this watermelon shandy made with Weihenstephan’s wheat beer, is the perfect way to celebrate the German national team! Pour half of the chilled wheat beer into a tall glass. Cut and blend watermelon in a blender and strain juice into the beer. Stir. Garnish with a lime or mint and serve immediately.
2. USA: Red, White-ish, and Blue Sangria

3. Mexico: Jalapeño Watermelon Margarita
The margarita is one of Mexico’s most beloved exports. Like most famous dishes, its invention is widely contested. However, the most famous story is that Carlos “Danny” Herrera invented the drink in his Tijuana-area restaurant, Rancho La Gloria, in 1938. This margarita is both spicy and sweet and is perfect to celebrate Mexico’s athletes. Get the full recipe here.
4. Brazil: Caipirinha
With the festivities quickly approaching, there’s no better way to celebrate the world’s greatest athletes than with the host country’s national cocktail. The caipirinha is the mojito’s Brazilian cousin in that they are both refreshing, summery, and sweet. You just need cachaça—a Brazilian distilled spirit made from sugarcane—sugar and limes. Once you mix your drink, you’re ready to toast to your national team in style. Full recipe here.
5. France: Champagne Cocktail
To celebrate the French team, grab a bottle of French champagne and mix this simple but delicious cocktail. Soak sugar cubes with bitters and drop in a champagne glass. Top your bitters with a champagne and serve with a lemon twist. Santé!
