We need to talk about chicken.
These days there are so many ways to buy chicken—at the farmers’ market, in the grocery store, from the butcher shop, or ordering online—which is why we go the extra mile to bring you the best (the word best is in the name for a reason!). We partnered with Katie’s Best to bring you non-GMO, air-chilled chicken that is never ever given antibiotics.
As a family-owned and operated business, owner Galen Miller works almost exclusively with small Amish farms in northern Indiana. The chickens are raised on spacious farms with free access to the outdoors, and given small teepees that allow them a place to perch, run through, and take shelter as they desire. According to Mr. Miller, “Our ultimate goal is to keep our chickens as healthy and stress free as possible. We know we have a responsibility to be the caretakers of a living animal and take it very seriously.”
The Miller family understands that every single step of the process of raising chickens holds equal importance. From the moment the egg hatches, the chicken lives under the expert and caring eyes of the Katie’s Best team. The birds are never given antibiotics, and excessive care is given to make sure their ideal environment is consistently maintained.
As for the chickens’ nourishment, they are fed an all-vegetable diet of local Non-GMO Project Verified corn and soybeans with no animal by-products. The feed that arrives from local farms must pass stringent Non-GMO Project Verified standards, and is inspected daily by expert veterinarians and nutritionists at Katie’s Best own mill.
This meticulous care for the animals, coupled with the air-chilling processing, results in a superior product. The traditional processing method of chilling chicken is in cold water, but air-chilling is just that—cold blasted air. This method ensures there’s no retained water, leaving you with a chicken that’s juicier and more flavorful. We’ve put this chicken through rigorous taste-testing, and it is truly outstanding.
