We’re highlighting some of our favorite Black-ow We’re highlighting some of our favorite Black-owned businesses all month long! Let us introduce you to Ibraheem Basir, founder of @adozencousins. Growing up being infliuenced by Creole, Caribbean, and Latin American cuisine, Ibraheem learned the importance of eating naturally. He started A Dozen Cousins as a way to conveniently bring authentic and healthy food to local communities.

A Dozen Cousins’ ready-to-heat beans make it super easy to bring delicious, globally-inspired flavor to meal time. Each variety is perfectly simmered and seasoned, using recipes from Ibraheem. Serve them with rice, in tacos, or tucked into a wrap for a satisfying, quick lunch or dinner with plenty of protein.

For starters, check out @zachandzoehoney, a family-owned business who knows a thing or two about bees. Specializing in honey production and superfood blending, their passion for bees and wellness led them to creating some of the sweetest honey we've ever had. Brother and sister, Zach and Zoë, and their parents Summer and Kam Johnson, have created over half a dozen honey flavors combined with superfoods to enhance the nutritional effects.

What you'll need:
1 - 8 ounce Norwegian salmon fillet, skinned, deboned and divided into two 4 ounce fillets
½ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon ground coriander
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
¼ teaspoon fresh cracked pepper
¼ cup honey
½ teaspoon sambal
1 tablespoon sliced red or green chilies

What you'll do:
1. In a heavy bottom sauce pan over medium high heat, add honey, sambal and chilies. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove pan from the heat and set aside. The longer the honey sits the more flavor the chilies release.
2. In the meantime, pat salmon dry and season with salt, coriander, smoked paprika and fresh cracked pepper.
3. Add oil to a cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Once the oil is hot, add salmon to the pan, presentation side down.
4. Cook the salmon for four minutes; flip and cook for another three minutes. Top salmon with glaze while in pan, to coat each filet.
5. Transfer to serving plates, top with more chili sauce, serve with brussels sprouts or your favorite vegetable, if desired.
