Continue getting to know the people behind your FreshDirect order with this month's timely Employee Spotlight, featuring Matt Sciarrino, FreshDirect's Senior Director of Plant Operations. Matt has been with us for fifteen years and has helped make FreshDirect a preferred employer.

Q: What's your favorite part about working at FD?
A: Watch my team and colleagues be offered opportunities to grow their career at FreshDirect. I describe my team as creative, resilient, dedicated, and diverse. They make the impossible, possible.

Q: What's something you've learned by working at FD?
A: I worked as a Chef after graduating from the Art Institute of NYC. I enjoyed cooking in restaurants but wanted to find an opportunity that would allow me explore other interests. I started my tenure at FreshDirect as a Sous Chef. I’ve been given multiple opportunities to learn about other departments and how I could grow within the organization. I’m grateful to have become fluent in Operations, Logistics, Food Production, among others.

Q: What does working at FD allow you to do in your personal life?
A: I grew up around food. I’m proud to be a third-generation food industry worker. It’s what I know and what I enjoy. Working at FreshDirect has given me the opportunity to share my passion for food with my kids. I’ve introduced a wide assortment of produce and other products to them that helps them appreciate the food on the dinner table.I also find fulfillment in volunteering. My family and me volunteer at food drives and giving back to those in need. As the Pack leader for my son’s boy scout pack, we work to help feed families in need. FreshDirect has graciously donated turkeys to our food drives, helping us feed families for the holidays. I’m grateful to FreshDirect for helping us provide for our communities.

Q: What's a goal or a dream that you have?
A: I’m driven to be the best and driven by service.I enjoy nothing more than developing a team and growing together. I also like to motivate myself to be a better person. I like to set short adn long-term goals to works towards. Right now, I’m focusing on exercising more, learning how to play the guitar, and read more books.
