For the Cake:<\/span><\/h4>

1 cup all-purpose flour
1\u00bd teaspoons baking powder
\u00bc teaspoon salt
5 large eggs, separated
1 cup granulated sugar, divided
\u2153 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract<\/p>

For the Strawberry Milk Soak:<\/span><\/h4>

4\u20135 fresh strawberries
1 cup whole milk
\u00be cup evaporated milk
\u00be cup heavy cream
2\u20133 tablespoons sugar\u00a0<\/p>

For the Topping:

1\u00bd cups heavy cream
<\/span>3 tablespoons powdered sugar
<\/span>\u00bd teaspoon vanilla extract

What To Do:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

1. Make the Cake<\/span><\/h4>

Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.<\/span><\/p>

In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.<\/span><\/p>

Separate eggs. Beat the yolks with \u00be cup sugar until pale and fluffy, about 3\u20134 minutes. Stir in milk and vanilla.<\/span><\/p>

In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Slowly add remaining \u00bc cup sugar and beat to stiff peaks.<\/span><\/p>

Fold yolk mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently fold in the egg whites in batches\u2014don’t overdo it or you’ll deflate the batter. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake until a toothpick comes out clean, 25\u201330 minutes. Let cool completely.<\/span><\/p>

2. Prepare the Strawberry Milk<\/span><\/h4>

Puree fresh strawberries in a food processor until smooth\u2014you will need \u00bd cup pur\u00e9e. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve if you prefer a less pulp-y texture.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In a bowl, whisk together whole milk, evaporated milk, heavy cream, strawberry pur\u00e9e, and 2 tablespoons sugar. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.<\/span><\/p>

3. Soak the Cake<\/span><\/h3>

Once cake is completely cool, poke holes all over the top surface using a fork or skewer. Slowly and evenly pour strawberry milk mixture over the cake and let it absorb. Refrigerate at least 4 hours, or overnight if possible.<\/span><\/p>

4. Make the Whipped Topping<\/span><\/h3>

Beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form. Spread evenly over the chilled cake and top with sliced strawberries. Serve cold.<\/span><\/p>
