Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, but fortunately there are steps you can take towards prevention.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take action to be in control of your health; these tips can start you off:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Know your numbers: <\/strong>get your cholesterol and blood pressure checked annually and discuss the results with your doctor, nurse or dietitian.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Know your family history: <\/strong>your  family history affects your risk for heart disease; share any heart  disease incidences in your family with your doctor or nurse.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Quit Smoking: <\/strong>quitting helps lower your risk of heart disease and heart attack.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Exercise: <\/strong>aim for at least 2 \u00bd hours of exercise weekly. Pick an activity that gets your heart rate up. Sign up for something fun to get the double benefit of reduced stress and cardiovascular strengthening.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Balance your diet<\/strong><strong>: <\/strong>here\u2019s where FreshDirect can come in! If you want to participate in something easy, February 1<sup>st<\/sup> is National Wear Red Day, and there are a lot of heart health hashtags you can adopt: #goredgetfit, #movewithheart, and #AmericanHeartMonth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can take action to promote heart health:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Celebrate\n National Wear Red Day to raise awareness about women and heart disease.\n Encourage everyone in your community to wear red on February 1, 2019. \nVisit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goredforwomen.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Go Red for Women<\/strong><\/a> for more information.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Host\n an American Heart Month event at a local school, health center, or \nlibrary. Work with local recreation and fitness centers to spread the \nword about the importance of physical activity to prevent heart disease.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.redcross.org\/find-your-local-chapter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Contact your local Red Cross<\/strong><\/a> to\n host a CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training event in your \ncommunity. Urge local community members to learn CPR and AED (automated \nexternal defibrillator).
