Voice Ordering Using Alexa & Google Assistant

By using your Alexa or Google Assistant enabled device, you can simply speak to add items to your FreshDirect cart, modify an order, check your order status, and review your cart contents.
You can do this by saying things like
  • "Alexa, ask FreshDirect to add milk to my cart"
  • "Hey Google, talk to FreshDirect"
  • All items added through voice are visible in your FreshDirect cart so you can checkout using FreshDirect.com or the FreshDirect mobile app whenever you're ready. There may be a slight delay in items added through the skill showing up in your cart on FreshDirect.com
  • Our smart voice assistant uses your order history in your FreshDirect account to make it the quickest & most convenient way to reorder a product.
  • For items that are configurable in measurement, or weight, you will only be able to reorder your previous purchased configuration. If you haven't ordered these items in the past, you will not be able to order them for the first time over voice.
  • Examples: Salmon, Steak, Cheese
  • When you are asked for the quantity, the skill will refer to how many of each item you'd like. If you say "One", that will indicate one of the item. NOT "One pound" or "one inch thick"

How to enable the FreshDirect Alexa skill

You will be prompted to sign into your FreshDirect account, this is a one time step that users have to complete the first time they enable the skill.

To quickly add your favorite items to your cart, say things like "Alexa, ask FreshDirect to add milk to my cart" or "Alexa, order more eggs from FreshDirect".

Any items added through voice will be visible in your FreshDirect account so you can checkout using FreshDirect.com or the FreshDirect mobile app whenever ready.

By tapping into your order history in your FreshDirect account, the skill is able to quickly and instinctively add your favorite items without prolonging the conversation.

How to enable the FreshDirect Google Action

Go to your Google device and say "Okay Google, talk to FreshDirect"

You will be prompted to sign into your FreshDirect account, this is a one time step that users have to complete the first time they enable the Action.

Open your Google Home app on your mobile device and select the Feed icon on the lower right corner, then click "Link" to connect your FreshDirect account.

Go back to your Google device and say once more "Ok Google, talk to FreshDirect"

Once inside the Action you can say things like, "Add milk to my cart", or "Order more bread"

Example features to test

Enabling Quick Add

When you first open the FreshDirect skill, you'll be prompted to enable the "quick add" feature. This will allow you to say an item and the skill to add it without needing any confirmation.

Example Script

  • User: "OK Google, talk to FreshDirect" OR "Alexa, open FreshDirect"
  • Voice App: Welcome to FreshDirect. Would you like to enable quick add to easily add items you've previously ordered?
  • User: "Yes"
  • Voice App: You can say, for example, modify my delivery or add milk to my cart. What can I help you with?
  • User: Add bananas

Modify an Upcoming Delivery

If you have an upcoming delivery, the skill will give you an opportunity to modify it right after you hear the Welcome Message. You always have the option to ask to modify an upcoming delivery.

Example Script:

  • User: "OK Google, talk to FreshDirect" OR "Alexa, open FreshDirect"
  • Voice App: Welcome to FreshDirect. Looks like you have an upcoming delivery that is set to deliver on Monday. Would you like to modify that?
  • User: "Yes, add grapes"

Check Order Status

You can check your delivery's order status at any time using the skill. When you open the FreshDirect skill, ask for your order's status and the skill will let you know when your order will arrive.

Example Script:

  • User: "OK Google, talk to FreshDirect" OR "Alexa, open FreshDirect"
  • Voice App: Welcome to FreshDirect. Would you like to enable quick add to easily add items you previously ordered?
  • User: No. What's my order status?
  • Voice App: You have 2 upcoming deliveries. To modify the delivery that is set to arrive on Wednesday, January 19, between 8 pm - 11 pm, say one. To modify the delivery that is set to arrive on Tuesday, January 18, between 8 pm - 11 pm, say two.

Review Cart Contents

You can check what items are in your cart using the skill at any time. When you open the FreshDirect skill, simply ask Alexa "Whats in my cart?"

Example Script:

  • User: "OK Google, talk to FreshDirect" OR "Alexa, open FreshDirect"
  • Voice App: Welcome to FreshDirect. Would you like to enable quick add to easily add items you previously ordered?
  • User: No, what's in my cart?
  • Voice App: The last things you added to your FreshDirect cart were 12 of Organic Unsweetened Almond Milk, Original, Plastic Bottle, 1 of Organic Frozen Fruit, Raspberries and 3 more items. Would you like to hear your entire cart?
