Lean Beef Recipes

Lean beef can be included as part of a well-balanced diet — in addition to the great protein quality it offers, beef also delivers essential nutrients that aren't always the most widespread across the food groups. These nutrients include vitamin B12, selenium, zinc, vitamin B6, choline, and iron. To be considered lean, a 3oz serving of cooked beef (4oz raw) must have less than 10 grams of total fat, 4.5 grams or less of saturated fat, and less than 95 mg of cholesterol. But don't stress the numbers — we've done the math for you, so you can get to cooking and enjoying these delicious lean beef recipes.

Steak & Pesto Sweet Potatoes

Try this sweet and savory update on the classic steak-and-potatoes combo. For the sweet potatoes: Drizzle and toss ½-1 cup of sliced sweet potatoes with 3 tbsp olive oil. Roast fries on a baking sheet for 15 minutes at 375° until golden and you can easily pierce with a knife. Toss in a few tbsp of pesto (or chimichurri). For the steak: Salt and pepper then sear on all sides in a hot skillet with butter and thyme. Finish the steak on the stovetop or in the oven. Let the steak rest for a few minutes, and serve whole or sliced against the grain.
