The two goals in making Finca Wölffer Rosé are to bring to Argentina our deliberate and focused approach to making sophisticated and elegant rosé, and to fulfill founder Christian Wölffer's dream: to make wine from the land he loved. It is an expression of Hamptons' esprit, but from the mountains of Argentina, or a "rosé with altitude," as winemaker Roman Roth says. Wölffer Estate Vineyard co-owner, Marc Wölffer, owns 85 hectares of vines in Mendoza, in Alto Agrelo-Lujan de Cuyo (at the base of the Andes, altitude 4,100 feet). Wölffer Estate Winemaker Roman Roth brings his rosé mastery to our production partner Susana Balbo (one of Argentina's greatest winemakers), and her son José Lovaglio at Dominio Del Plata for one of the first Provence-style rosés to come out of Argentina. With more than 300 sunny days a year, the arid, cool climate and sandy loam soil are ideal for achieving the balance, ripeness, and lively acidity that are hallmarks of Wölffer's signature style: European elegance paired with the distinct typicity of the fruit's terroir. The color is pale light pink. The aroma is fresh and pure. Ripe fruit, cherries, raspberries, and lime zest with a clean and vibrant mouth-feel balanced by elegant minerality and playful acidity. There is a lovely texture and a wonderful soft "salty" aftertaste that makes this rosé classic and food-friendly. Serve chilled with summer barbecue, fish, or shellfish. Or just sip it by the pool and imagine the cool Andes breeze. (from the vintner)
