Crémant d'Alsace is one of France's hidden treasures. These sparkling wines are crafted using the same traditional production methods of Champagne, but retail for a small fraction of the price of a top cuvee. Domaine Charles Baur in Eguisheim, in the heart of Alsace, has been in the Baur family since the early 18th century. They exclusively use grapes grown on the estate and employ hand-harvesting and sorting to produce balanced, elegant, wines that bring out the particular qualities of Alsace's diverse terroir. The family has been farming organically since the 2014 vintage. Their Crémant d'Alsace is a blend of 40% Auxerrois, 40% Pinot Blanc and 20% Chardonnay. The vines average 25 years old and grow on a limestone and clay soil. This traditional method sparkling wine ages in the cellar 24 months before disgorgement. Fine bubbles, expressive bouquet with aromas of white flowers, melon and grapefruit. The mouthfeel is fresh, delicate, well balanced, with notes of pear and white peach. Enjoy as an aperitif or with a broad variety of cuisines from spicy Chinese food to seafood, caviar, and egg dishes. (from the vintner)
