- Marker's 46 is a bolder expression of Maker's Mark. The goal was to craft a bourbon with bold vanilla, oak and caramel flavors — yet retain the easy drinkability of Maker's Mark. Everyone agreed that any new whisky had to start with regular Maker's Mark.
After much experimentation with special barrels and different wood varieties and levels of char, the team settled on the right process. The magic combination — which just happened to be trial #46 — came from a barrel with 10 "seared" French oak staves inserted inside to lend natural flavors of caramel, vanilla and spice. Finished Maker's Mark was then added to the modified barrel and returned to the coolest part of the aging warehouse. About 10 weeks later, well, voilà — a noticeably bigger and bolder Bourbon, but with the smoothness and drinkability that have always set Maker's Mark apart from its peers.
Maker's 46 offers more complexity; a deeper, richer copper tone; and big, bold flavors of vanilla, caramel, oak and spice. Yet Maker's 46 retains the easy drinkability of Maker's Mark and has none of the bitterness that comes with whiskies that are aged longer. (from the distiller)
