- Founded 130 years ago, Wente Vineyards, located just east of San Francisco in the historic Livermore Valley, is the country's oldest, continuously operated family-owned winery.
The Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon is named for Wente's estate vineyards located along the southern hills of the Livermore Valley. This blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 5% Petite Sirah, 5% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc has flavors of ripe black cherry and dark plum with undertones of coffee and spice. Rich, yet approachable tannins lead to a long, smooth finish. Enjoy with burgers, pizza, and grilled meats.
Since 1883, five generations of the Wente family have handcrafted fine wines using the two clones originating from California wine pioneer Charles Wetmore's Bordeaux cuttings in the 19th century. With Livermore Valley's unique East-West orientation, well-drained rocky soils, and unique mesoclimates, the Southern Hills vineyards are located in the most desirable settings with exposures ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon of distinct character, depth and intensity.
