Amrut Distilleries began distilling in 1948, just as India became independent. Launched in 2009, and awarded as Jim Murray's Third Finest Whisky in the World in 2010, Amrut Fusion is made from high altitude Indian barley, traditionally cultivated at the feet of the Himalayas. The barley is then mashed and distilled in small batches to preserve its natural aromas.
The Fusion bottling blends 75% unpeated Indian single malt and 25% peated Scottish Single Malt, both Cask Strength. The nose is rich, barley, fruity, big on citrus, spices, creamy sweetness with a hint of peat. The palate is oaky, rich, gentle peat, coffee, dark chocolate and fruity with a finish that is long, spiced, marmalade, sweetness. (from Amrut)
