Ricard Pastis is a distinct fresh taste of licorice and subtle Provence herbs. Ricard is now the best-selling aniseed-based spirit in the world.
This anise-based spirit is still made using Paul Ricard's original recipe, which has remained a secret since 1932. Ricard's ingredients — star anise, licorice extracts, fennel and aromatic plants — are carefully selected to ensure the quality of every bottle. Ricard owes its reputation to its original recipe, which remains a closely guarded secret to this day. Aged in large barrels in the open air, a slight 'sea-side' flavor is imparted by the salt spray that licks the barrels.
Ricard pastis should be served cold. It should be prepared by adding five parts of chilled water to one part of Ricard and then adding the ice cubes last. (from Ricard)
