Chateau Boswell is one of our all-time favorite Chardonnays. Established in 1979 under the direction of André Tchelistcheff, the Boswell family focuses on producing small-lot wines to spectacular effect. The Chateau Boswell caves, 65 feet below the estate hillside vineyard, were designed by Susan to green building specifications. As the first certified Napa Green Winery, Chateau Boswell continues to preserve and protect the Napa Valley through their practices and through their active participation in support of sustainable initiatives.
The 2011 Voyage is a lively Chardonnay that showcases what is best about the Russian River AVA. It has the energy that comes from the special vineyard sites (Ritchie, Dutton Ranch Rued and Sebastopol) that the grapes come from, but it also has the lush, rich textures that one expects from the Russian River area. When you put your nose to the glass there is a aromatic dual of two desserts, key lime pie and creme brûlée. With time it develops a tropical quality that eventually steals the show. Even though this is a big Chardonnay, it always stays light on its feet. The combination of intensity and freshness will reward anyone who pulls the cork.
