What's tastier than an in-season apple? Homemade applesauce! This easy — and tasty — purée is a classic baby food, but it should be a hit with the rest of the family as well.

Makes about 2 cups or 32 tablespoons

6 sweet apples (Golden Delicious, Rome or Ginger Gold work well)

1. Peel and core the apples. Cut into quarters.
2. Place the apple pieces in a steamer basket and steam for 12-15 minutes, or until they feel tender and pierce easily with a fork. Reserve the steaming liquid for the purée.
3. Purée the apples in a blender or food processor. Use a little of the steaming liquid if the mixture seems too thick.
