A Bronx-Inspired Hot Dog by Farideh Sadeghin

FreshDirect has teamed up with the author of The Hot Dog Cookbook to create a special hot dog that nods to the Italian flavors you’ll find on Arthur Avenue. It made its debut at a special Yankee Stadium event—and you can try it for yourself with Farideh’s original recipe.

What You’ll Need:

1/2 cup mayo
1 tablespoon Calabrian peppers
1¼ oz fresh basil leaves, plus more for garnish
1/2 cup olive oil
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 garlic clove
1 pint cherry tomatoes, quartered
Kosher salt
Freshly-ground pepper
8 hot dogs
8 buns
8 pieces bocconcini mozzarella

What To Do:

In a small bowl, mix mayo and Calabrian peppers. Transfer to a piping bag or squeeze bottle, if you have one.

In a food processor, blend basil, olive oil, vinegar, and garlic until smooth. Toss with the tomatoes in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.

Grill and assemble the hot dogs and buns. Tear a piece of bocconcini over each dog, then squiggle or dollop with mayo. Top with tomatoes and drizzle over any leftover dressing. Garnish with basil leaves.
