Make These Caramel Apples For Halloween

Miki Kawasaki · September 22, 2020 ·

Fall brings together so many of our favorite things, like apples picked fresh from the orchard and the sugar rush of Halloween candy. So if you want a treat that celebrates the best of the season, look no further than crisp candy apples coated in the sticky sheen of rich, decadent caramel.

Caramel Apple

These are great for making with kids, or for serving at any fall or Halloween event. They’ll work with any apple variety, although tart apples like Pink Ladys or Granny Smiths are especially nice for the sweet and sour contrast they create.

What You’ll Need:

6 oz caramel candies (we love Jacobsen Salt Co. Salty Caramels)
2 tablespoons milk
4 small apples
4 wooden popsicle sticks
Optional toppings: finely chopped nuts, sprinkles, shredded coconut, crushed cookies, mini M&Ms

What To Do:

Line a sheet with wax paper and set aside.

Using a small knife, remove the stems from the apples. Insert sticks in the indentations where the stems were, stopping halfway through.

Unwrap the caramels and place them in a microwave-safe bowl along with the milk. Heat mixture in the microwave for 1 minute, stir, then return to microwave and heat 1 minute more. Stir until completely mixed and smooth. If caramels are not fully melted, return to microwave and continue warming in 15 second increments. Keep an eye on the bowl the entire time while it’s in the microwave.

Place a few scoops of any of the optional toppings on a plate and spread in an even layer.

Roll the apples in the caramel sauce, coating all over and letting any excess drip off. Roll each in the toppings, if using, then place on lined sheet to set.
