Sancerre is one of the oldest terroirs in France, dating back to the sixth century. The original vineyards, mostly comprised of Pinot grapes, were destroyed by phylloxera in the late 19th century and widely replaced by Sauvignon, which is particularly suited to the climate. AOP status was awarded to white Sancerre wines in 1936, and the terroir stretches over 6,000 acres. The Sancerre landscape combines a hilly relief with the Loire Valley. Our new range, "Les Terres Blanches," refers to the three main type of soils: white soil, caillottes, and soft limestone. Sancerre Les Terres Blanches provides a crisp and fruity nose, with floral cut grass and white fruit aromas. It's well balanced between freshness and roundness and very elegant on the palate. Serve this wine chilled, as an aperitif on its own, and enjoy with light dishes such as a cold buffet, salads, fish in sauce, shellfish, and with all goats' cheeses. (from the vintner)
