We envy Belgian endive for its creamy complexion and sleek lines. Its long, slender leaves are as elegant as a champagne flute. The slightly bitter flavor reminds us of radicchio, but the snappy texture is special to the endive. The arrowhead-shaped leaves have a soft, unpolished surface, but when you bite into them, they've got body and crunch. Established in 1818, Hepworth Farms is one of the premier organic growers in the Hudson Valley. Under the direction of sisters Amy and Gail Hepworth, this FreshDirect Partner Farm serves as a leader and inspiration for responsible and sustainable agriculture. Hepworth Farms preserves and maintains approximately 550 acres of biodiverse and nutrient-dense soil in Milton, New York, just 1.5 hours north of New York City. During their peak growing months from May through late November, they provide a full assortment of vegetables including tomatoes, beans, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cucumber, eggplant, peppers, zucchini, lettuces, greens, roots, and squashes. Hepworth Farms also offers popular spring and summer farm shares.
